Staff Augmentation Services

Staff Augmentation Services in Australia

Need more hands on your build without a six-month hiring process? We add vetted developers, QA engineers, DevOps specialists and designers straight into your existing team — working your way, on your tools, for as long as you actually need them.

What Staff Augmentation Actually Means

Staff augmentation is simple: you add one or more external developers to your existing team, on contract, for as long as the work needs them. You keep the direction and the priorities. We handle the finding, vetting, and employing of the person.

It's not the same as outsourcing a whole project to a separate team. The person works inside your team — on your stand-ups, your codebase, your sprint board — not off in a black box you only hear from at milestone reviews.

Signs You Might Need This

Your roadmap has stalled

You're one or two developers short and the backlog just keeps growing while you wait to hire.

A skill is missing, not a whole team

You need someone who knows DevOps, mobile, or AI properly — but not badly enough to justify a full-time role yet.

Recruiting is taking too long

You've been interviewing for months and the seat is still empty while the project sits there.

The work is real but the budget isn't permanent

You've got funding for the next six or twelve months, not a lifetime employment contract.

You want to try before you commit

You'd like to see how someone works with your team before deciding whether to offer them a permanent spot.

How It Works

  1. Tell us what's missing

The role, the skills, how long you think you'll need someone, and what "good" looks like for your team.

  2. We shortlist people who actually fit

Not a stack of generic CVs — a short list matched to your stack, your industry, and how your team likes to work.

  3. You meet them and decide

You talk to the person directly. If they're not right, we go back to the list. You're never stuck with a bad fit.

  4. They join your team properly

Same tools, same stand-ups, same sprint board. They report to you day to day, same as anyone else on the team.

  5. Scale it as your plan changes

Add another person, wind the engagement down, or bring someone on permanently — whatever the project needs next.

The Roles We Place

Software Developers

Front-end, back-end, and full-stack developers who can pick up an existing codebase without months of ramp-up.

Mobile App Developers

iOS, Android, and cross-platform developers for teams shipping or maintaining an app.

AI & Machine Learning Engineers

People who've actually shipped AI features, not just experimented with a model in a notebook.

DevOps & Cloud Engineers

For teams that need someone to own the pipeline, the infrastructure, and the on-call reality that comes with it.

QA & Test Engineers

Dedicated testers who catch problems before your customers do, not after.

UI/UX Designers

Designers who can slot into an existing design system rather than reinvent it.

Staff Augmentation vs a Full-Time Hire vs Outsourcing a Project

These three options solve different problems. Here's the honest comparison, not the version that only makes one of them look good.

What About Fair Work and Super?

Here's something most staff augmentation pages don't mention: how someone is engaged matters under Australian law, not just what it says on the invoice.

If a person works like an employee — set hours, your equipment, an ongoing role in your team — but is paid as a contractor, that can create real exposure: unpaid superannuation, or a sham contracting claim under the Fair Work Act. The super guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2025, and from 1 July 2026 it has to be paid every payday rather than quarterly, which makes the exposure add up faster if it's set up wrong.

At Cognify Digital, we employ the people we place directly. Super, leave, and entitlements are handled on our side, so you get the flexibility of staff augmentation without inheriting the compliance risk that comes with a loose contracting arrangement.

Why Work With Cognify Digital

We've built and run our own product — Ausvanta, a live compliance platform — so we know what it's like to be the team on the other end of a bad augmented hire: someone who needs three months to become useful, or who disappears the moment things get hard. We place people we'd actually want on our own team, and we stay involved for as long as the engagement runs, not just for the placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IT staff augmentation?

It's a way to add external developers or specialists to your existing team on contract, so you can fill a skill or capacity gap without hiring a permanent employee.

How is this different from outsourcing?

With staff augmentation, the person works inside your team and you manage the day-to-day work. With outsourcing, a separate team manages the whole project and hands it back to you at agreed milestones.

How quickly can someone start?

Most placements start within one to three weeks of us understanding the role, depending on how specific the skill set is.

Can I meet the person before they start?

Yes. You always speak with the shortlisted person directly before deciding. If they're not the right fit, we go back to the list.

What if I only need someone for a few months?

That's the normal use case. Engagements can run for a few months or a few years, and you can extend, reduce, or end them as your plan changes.

Who manages the augmented developer day to day?

You do. They join your stand-ups, use your tools, and report into your team, the same as anyone else working on the project.

Can an augmented developer become a permanent hire later?

Yes, that happens often. If the fit is right, we can talk through converting the engagement to a direct hire.

Do you handle superannuation and entitlements?

Yes. We employ the people we place, so their super, leave, and other entitlements are handled on our side, not left as a grey area for you to manage.

What roles can you place?

Software developers, mobile developers, AI and machine learning engineers, DevOps and cloud engineers, QA testers, and UI/UX designers.

What does it cost?

It depends on the role, seniority, and how long you need them. The clearest way to get a number is a short scoping call rather than a generic price list.

What role is holding up your roadmap?

Tell us the role and roughly when you need someone. We will come back with who we have available, what they have worked on, and what it would cost — usually within two business days.

Which role? (required)

No obligation. We will tell you honestly if we do not have the right person available rather than putting forward a near-enough fit.

We use what you send us to answer your enquiry and, if it leads somewhere, to provide the service you ask about. We do not sell it. See our Privacy Policy.

Would rather just talk?

A short call is usually enough to work out whether staff augmentation is the right fit, and what it would take to get someone started.
